The second and third graders at Harold McCormick participated in the Celebration of the Arts.
Students presented a patriotic musical, “Let’s Sing America.” Each class also created artwork that celebrated America.
The second graders sang, ‘This Land is Your Land’, ‘The Spirit of America’, and ‘God Bless America’ while doing sign language.
These specific classes wove an American Flag, created President Portraits and used oil pastels to render an American Eagle.
The third-grade classes sang ‘The Battle Cry of Freedom’, ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’, and ‘American Dream Medley’ which included Yankee Doodle, You’re a Grand ‘Ole Flag, and America the Beautiful.
The students combined for two finale numbers.
Veterans were honored in a slide show presentation as the students sang ‘God Bless the USA’. Students and faculty members brought in pictures of family members who have served in our nation’s military for this slide show.
Veterans in attendance were recognized during an Armed Forced Medley, where the audience sang along to honor each branch of the military.
The third grader’s art included a watercolor painting of the Statue of Liberty, Armed Forces Portraits, and artwork that included lyrics from their musical selections.
The entire student body of HME participated in the book fair, as well as designated days to eat with Veterans. A special “Thank you” to Mr. Rick Walters, with Horace Mann Insurance for providing lunch for our Veterans.
The goal of Celebration of the Arts week was to highlight select related arts classes in order to stress the importance of these subjects in relation to their academic subjects and real-life experiences.
The Elizabethton City School System has given each child the opportunity to be exposed to the arts.
