Cloudland, Unaka gain lion’s share of Region 1-A honors

Coaches in Region 1-A have released their 2019 awards for the 2019 football season and local teams Cloudland and Unaka received high accolades when the top awards and all-conference teams were released.
Cloudland’s Garrison Julian was recognized as the MVP for the 2019 season while Coach Scott Potter was named the Coach of the Year after taking over halfway through the season and guiding the Highlanders to the third round of the playoffs.
David Miller picked up the Offensive Lineman of the Year while Jed Childress collected Defensive Lineman of the Year accolades.
Triston Lacy was recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Year as well for Cloudland.
Unaka’s Logan Benway was named the Co-Offensive Back of the Year along with Jellico’s Joseph Paul. Benway finished the season with 1,704 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns.

Co-Offensive Backs of the Year: Logan Benway, Unaka and Joseph Paul, Jellico
Wide Receiver of the Year: Jordan King, Jellico
Defensive Lineman of the Year: Jed Childress, Cloudland
Linebacker of the Year: Preston Hatfield, Hancock County
Defensive Back of the Year: Dakota Blevins, Hancock County
All-purpose Player of the Year: Ethan Short, Hancock County
Special Teams Player of the Year: Triston Lacy, Cloudland
Coach of the Year: Scott Potter, Cloudland
All-Conference
Cloudland: Logan Johnson, Hunter Blair, Hunter Shell, Wyatt Julian, Seth Birchfield, Eli Presswood.
Hancock County: Jadon Royston, Darron Collins, Stetson Collins, Tyler Gibson.
Jellico: Keaton Jones, Jacob Reynolds, James Cassidy, Carter Bolton, Kade Evans.
Unaka: Nick Bowers, Austin Drew, Nathaniel Oaks, Daniel Shearl, Devin Ramsey.
