KINGSPORT – Cami Davison has been a standout soccer player at whatever level she has played and will look to continue showing her skills at the next level as she signed with Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday night.
A gathering of her TC United travel team was on hand to witness her signing along with travel team coach Matt Barry who coached her for two years on travel teams and was instrumental in LMU’s
interest in her.
“Cami is an outstanding soccer player as well as an academic achiever having graduated in three years from EHS with a 4.0 GPA and where she played two years as an attacking midfielder,” Barry said.
“She had the unfortunate ACL tear in February but has worked incredibly hard to rehab that injury and come back as strong as ever. She has been training with the boy’s team in an effort to show she can compete at the collegiate level.”
LMU is currently in the NCAA Division II playoffs having won their second consecutive Southern Athletic Conference championship and will face UNC Pembroke on Friday in the opening game of the Southeast Regional.
“I’m really excited to be joining a team that has had so much success,” Davison said. “Coach (Sean) Frasier has been really good, I love all my coaches there. It was a tough decision between Carson-Newman and LMU but I think I made the right choice. I will study physical therapy and maybe get into biology. I think LMU will be a good experience and seemed like a better fit for me.”
At EHS Davison was a prolific scorer who head coach Bill McClay called “our best player” her freshman season in which she scored over 30 goals. She has had a few nicks in her time on the pitch with an ankle injury suffered against University High her freshman season followed by a fractured ankle while playing for Dallas FC in travel ball at the Olympic Development Program.
She played a nearly injury-free junior season with the Lady Cyclones and was again one of the top scorers in the conference before being injured in February.
Despite these setbacks, she has concentrated all her efforts on soccer since she decided to put all her efforts into the game and drop basketball – a game she was very good at.
“Cami decided to concentrate on soccer early on,” commented Cami’s father Dean Davison. “My brother Dave coached her in recreational soccer and later on she made the decision to quit basketball and play soccer.
“I was a little disappointed in that because I felt she was really good at basketball, but she wanted to play soccer and we (Dean and Heather Davison) supported her all the way. Her older sister Caden tried soccer and hated it, but Cami took to it right off.”
Davison was named Offensive Player of the Year her freshman year in 2016 along with All-District and All-Region. She was named Midfielder of the Year in 2018 and was also All-Conference and All-Region.
Some of her travel ball accomplishments are she was selected top 18 at the National tournament and her team accomplishments are 2017 Tennessee State Cup championship, US Youth Soccer Region III President’s Cup Championship in Oklahoma and her team finished third at the National Tournament in Orlando, Florida.
“Cami is a hard worker and has always had a good work ethic,” commented mom Heather Davison. “She is a dedicated player and in her school studies and other activities, she is very active. We are very proud of her and her hard work has really paid off for her.”
