JONESBOROUGH – The Happy Valley Lady Warriors like to leave their opponents the way they like their steaks – cooked well done and the University High Lady Bucs found that out the hard way Monday night as Coach Thomas Gouge girls opened play in the 2019 Hardee’s Classic with a 74-15 roasting of U-H.
As a matter of fact, the Lady Warriors were on such a roll that they scored 25 points alone in the first quarter as HV rolled out to a 45-8 lead after the first 16 minutes and never looked back.
The game was a team effort by the Lady Warriors as 12 players would dent the scoring column in the contest which is always nice for a head coach to see.
Kadie Bailey had the hot hand in the affair as she totaled a game-high 17 for the game including three long treys. Shalyn Whitson was a scoring machine in the first quarter for the Lady Warriors totaling 10 of her 12 points in the first eight minutes of the contest.
Casey Campbell and Olivia Absher played big contributing roles as each Lady Warrior collected eight points apiece. Gabby Wood and Kenzie Ramey also knocked down six points each in the win.
Other scorers included Emma Blevins (5), Holly Moore (4), Autumn Henegar (4), Emily Lunceford (4), Ashlyn McNally (2), and Keili Hall (1).
Johnson had 10 points to pace University High with Leonard scoring four points.
Happy Valley will be back in action at the Hardee’s Classic on Wednesday at 7:30 pm as the tournament continues in the semifinals of the Hardee’s Classic.
