Jasper Williams

Jasper Williams, 91, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 25, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Jasper was born in Elizabethton to the late William and Mattie Lyons Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances White Williams; a daughter, Debra Lancaster; three brothers, Roby Williams, Grady Williams and Albert Williams; and two sisters, Grace Arnold and Goldia Williams.
Jasper was both a United States Navy veteran, where he had served in World War II, and a United States Air Force veteran, where he retired as a Technical Sergeant E-6. After retiring from the military he was employed for 19 years as the Elizabethton Finance Director, where he also retired. He was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon for over 38 years and also as a Sunday School teacher. Jasper enjoyed his church work, gardening, hunting and fishing and being outdoors.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 31 years, Marvella Williams, of the home; a son, Douglas Williams and wife Beth of Elizabethton; a sister, Rosa Stout, also of Elizabethton; two grandsons, Jason Lancaster of Boones Creek and Nathan Lancaster of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three great-grandsons, Noah Lancaster, Hayden Lancaster and Fletcher Lancaster, all of Murfreesboro; one step-son, Michael Johnson and wife Michelle of Elizabethton; and one step-grandson, Randall Johnson of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Jasper Williams will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, November 29, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Joey Cole. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at other times. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the VFW Honor Guard Bristol Post 6975. Active pallbearers will be Randall Johnson, Dallas Williams, Kent Williams, Dale Williams, Don Shepherd, Jerry Ray and Jason Hartley. Honorary pallbearers will be Biltmore Baptist Church Members. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Valley Forge/Hampton Volunteer Fire Department, 418 Church Street, Hampton, TN 37658 or to Recovery Soldiers Ministries, 1180 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
