While the Elizabethton football team is still making a strong run for a state championship, basketball season is in full swing for the Cyclones.
The Elizabethton Cyclones took on the Tigers from Pigeon Forge Thursday night in an early-season matchup.
With most of the Cyclones’ starters not yet playing because of the football playoffs, the scoring in the first quarter by both teams was scarce.
As a result, Elizabethton took a 10-6 lead going into the second quarter.
In the second period, the Cyclones were able to take off but Pigeon Forge would follow soon after by matching the home team’s shots.
All told, Elizabethton would go into the break with a five-point lead, 23-18.
After the break, the Cyclones were able to find their groove and thanks to a one-handed jam by Nico Ashley the momentum was in the home team’s favor giving them a solid 41-26 lead heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter consisted of the Cyclones cruising en route to their first win of the season by a pretty wide margin.
Along the way, Ashley would throw down yet another slam to personify Elizabethton’s big win, 67-40.
Ashley finished with 20 points in the big win, Nicholas Wilson followed with 13, and William Willocks finished with 10.
