Joan Ward, 82, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and loved ones on Thursday, November 21, 2019, from Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton. Joan was born in Elizabethton to the late J.D. and Addie Williams Oliver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and loving father, Lee R. Ward; a son, Jerry Lee Ward; two sisters, Mae Buckles and Minnie Williams; and two brothers, Clayton Oliver and Harley Oliver.
Joan was a native of Carter County, a devoted, loving and caring Mother and a member of Blue Springs Christian Church. She loved her church, garden work and the people of her church.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her daughter, Teresa Ward of Elizabethton; a son, Jeffrey Ward and wife Patty of Glen St. Mary, Fla.; three sisters, Wanda Bennett, Nadine Ward and Louis, all of Elizabethton; three grandsons, James Miller and wife Bailey of Elizabethton, Aaron Ward of Virginia and Billy Collins of Picksburg, Pa.; and her granddaughter, Bianca Ward of California. Several nieces, nephews and other grandchildren also survive.
It was Mrs. Ward’s request to have a private graveside service at a later time. A visitation will be conducted on Saturday, November 23, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family would like to especially thank the staff of the 2nd Floor of Sycamore Shoals Hospital for their care and support, nurse practitioner, Long and Dr. Hackett for their care.
