MEMPHIS (AP) — Weather officials say three cities in Arkansas and Tennessee have established or tied record low temperatures as a wintry weather system moved through the mid-South region.

The National Weather Service said the Tennessee cities of Memphis and Jackson recorded low temperatures for the date Tuesday of 21 degrees and 19 degrees, respectively. Forecasters said the previous record in Memphis was 23 in Memphis and 21 in Jackson.

The weather service said on Twitter that Jonesboro, Ark., tied a record low of 20 degrees.

Frigid temperatures are expected to continue, with temperatures expected to drop again late Tuesday. Lows in the teens are expected Wednesday morning.

Memphis and other parts of West Tennessee saw light snow Tuesday. Some school systems canceled classes, while others delayed the start of the school day.
