Food for the Multitude will have cornbread and chili dinner Saturday

Food for the Multitude will sponsor a Cornbread and Chili Dinner and Bake Sale Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The menu will include homemade chili, cornbread, cookies, and drink. Also, gluten-free items will be available and carryouts are available. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
There will also be bake sale items.
The dinner is the major fundraiser for the year for Food for the Multitude, which provides meals for those in need every Saturday. Participating churches in Food for the Multitude are Blue Springs Christian, Church of the Nazarene, First Presbyterian, First United Methodist, Memorial Presbyterian, Southside Christian, and St. Thomas Episcopal. Many other churches have also served in the past.
The group is always looking to add new churches or groups to the ministry.
The ministry was first established 33 years ago in 1985, and it was the brainchild of Benny Buck and John Froggett, members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The program had its beginning in the kitchen and dining area of St. Thomas. Initially, the people who came for meals ate in, however, today, the majority prefer carry-out.
The meals are served each Saturday morning at the TLC Center, located at 145 Judge Don Lewis Blvd. Volunteers from the seven local participating churches take their turn dishing up meals for an average of 200 carry-out meals per serving rotation.
Each church is responsible for the main entree, bread, and dessert. Vegetables, fruits, and serving trays are provided from the Food for the Multitude Council budget.
In addition to the chili and cornbread supper, Food for the Multitude has a yard sale each spring.
