After a big win on homecoming night holding the Unaka Rangers to a shutout in a 64-0 rout, the Hampton Bulldogs will face one final test before heading into postseason play.
This Friday night the Bulldogs will be hoping to end their season with a victory against the Cosby Eagles on a special Senior Night game to honor those in their last year of Bulldog football.
After last Friday’s impressive showing, Hampton head coach Michael Lunsford said, “Our defense played very well, as they have been for a good part of the season.
“Sometimes you can have a bad game after going from playing a tough opponent to a team that is not as skilled, but our team executed to perfection and we got the result we wanted.”
With his team now focusing on the last game of the regular season, Lunsford added, “They are a tough team offensively. Their guys in the backfield can thrive for anyone in the conference.
“We’ve gotta be prepared for them defensively and work on not giving up any long touchdowns or let them get into the open field and make us miss tackles.”
He continued, “We need to utilize the weapons we have because we have a bunch of guys that can put the ball in the end zone.
“With that being said we need to make sure that we are staying physical upfront because that can determine the game.”
Having an impressive season thus far Lunsford and his team are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Lunsford continued, “Lately we’ve been trying to keep our starters fresh by giving the younger guys some plays like we did against Unaka.
“Along with that, we’ve not been doing as many full pad practices to keep our guys healthy and keep them fresh for the games on Friday nights. We’ve had a good season so far and I think we can go deep in the playoffs.”
Hampton’s Senior Night contest against the Cosby Eagles will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at J.C. Campbell Stadium in Hampton.
