JOHNSON CITY — The East Tennessee State University Department of Media and Communication and Department of Art and Design are offering unique opportunities to local high school students to gain firsthand knowledge of an emerging social media marketing landscape using industry-leading Adobe software.

The first event will be a free High School Social Media Summit on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. This will offer students the opportunity to learn effective marketing communication and social media strategies from industry leaders using Adobe software, including Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Pro. Space will be limited, and interested students may visit www.etsu.edu/mcom to reserve a spot.

“This is a great way to partner with our community and help high school students understand the effective use of social media for organizations as well as the career opportunities in the space,” ETSU Department of Media and Communication Chair Stephen Marshall said. “We have a team of experts with experience teaching Fortune 500 companies, so we are excited to ‘pay it forward’ by sharing.”

Through the second opportunity, high schools may invite a team of department representatives and ETSU students to their school to host a tailored session. Interested parties should email Marshall at marshals@etsu.edu.

Both the High School Social Media Summit and the tailored sessions focus on the effective planning and execution of social media to help organizations. They will also help high school students understand some of the tools available for content creation, including graphics and videos. Career opportunities will also be discussed.
