Carter County Schools releases annual report

During Monday morning’s Financial Management Committee meeting, School Superintendent Kevin Ward presented the school board’s Annual Report, showing improvement in several key areas.
According to the report, the graduation rate for the 2018/2019 school year was around 91 percent, with an ACT composite score of 19.3.
The state also named two Reward Schools in the county: Valley Forge Elementary and Happy Valley Elementary.
Ward said scholarships and financial aid students received totaled around $6.9 million.
Teachers of the year included Erin Rogna of Hampton Elementary, Dawn Taylor of Central Elementary and Kayla Clawson of Unaka High School.
“Carter County is a level five district for value added growth and has been designated an ‘advancing’ district,” County Schools Superintendent Kevin Ward said in the report. “Eight Carter County Schools were level five composite for growth, as well.”
These growth schools include Central, Cloudland Elementary, Cloudland High School, Happy Valley Elementary, Happy Valley Middle, Hunter Elementary, Unaka High School and Valley Forge.
