Tennessee High takes three-way golf match over Cyclones, East

BLOUNTVILLE – While Hurricane Dorian was blowing up the eastern shorelines, the Tennessee High Vikings were kicking up a little wind of their own at Tri-Cities Golf Course on Thursday as Tennessee High dominated both boys and girls play in a three-school match featuring Elizabethton and Sullivan East along with the Vikings.
Led by Jack Tickle’s 37 the Vikings took the boys match with a 163 followed by the Cyclones who carded a team round of 172 and East closed out with a 184.
Evan Jones contributed to the team win by firing a 39 while Cole Self closed out with a 40.
The Cyclones got another great round from Cooper Tipton who led Elizabethton with a 38 for the day. Caleb Tipton added a 43 for the Cyclones while Padraig Murphy came back from a challenging round earlier in the week to finish with a 44 for the day.
Justice Dillard was the low man for the Patriots with a 41 while Joey Snyder finished with a 45 for East.
In girls play, the Lady Vikings got two great rounds from Madeline Simcox who checked in with a 35 and Isabella Atkins putted out with a 37 to give Tennessee High the match with a team 72.
Sullivan East played well enough to slide past the Lady Cyclones for second place as the Lady Patriots finished with a 97, two strokes ahead of Elizabethton who finished with a team round of 99.
Abbey Delaney led the Lady Pats with a 45 while Evie Leonard finished with a round of 52.
For Elizabethton, Katlyn Kechter had the low round for the Lady Cyclones with a 47. Hannah McDonald’s 52 completed the team score for Elizabethton.
