Anytime a team scores five runs in a baseball game, they have done what it takes to have an opportunity to win that game.

It just didn’t work out that way for the Elizabethton Twins on Tuesday as the E-Twins dropped their second consecutive game to the homestanding Pulaski Yankees by a 10-5 score.

The score wasn’t indicative of the game early on as the Yankees led only 3-2 through three innings of play before pulling away in the middle innings to take the win.

Pulaski took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Ryder Green’s single plated Roberto Chirinos.

Elizabethton actually enjoyed the lead briefly in the top of the third as Spencer Steer continued his torrid hitting pace with a two-run home run to left center field that collected Ruben Santana to make it 2-1 E-Twins.

That lead quickly evaporated in the bottom of the same inning as Pulaski recaptured the lead.

Green was in the middle again for the Yankees as he worked a bases-loaded walk to plate Borinquen Mendez.

Elizabethton was still in the gifting mode as Saul Torres followed suit with a bases-load walk that allowed Antonio Cabello to come across the dish giving Pulaski a 3-2 lead at the end of three complete.

After a scoreless top half of the fourth, the Yankees picked back up where they left off in the third inning adding two more runs to their side of the scoreboard to make it 5-2 after four complete.

Spencer Henson ripped his second home run of the season to left field and a Chirinos groundout allowed Mendez to score as well to account for the runs.

While the E-Twins struggled to score, the Yankees keep their foot on the gas scoring three more times in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Saul Torres singled home Oliver Dunn with Green advancing to third on the play. A Henson double chased Green home to make it 7-2 Pulaski.

Jake Pries singled on a 2-2 count allowing Henson to race home for the eighth run of the game for Pulaski as the E-Twins found themselves in a deep hole, 8-2.

‘Betsy managed to slice a run off the deficit in the top of the sixth inning when Alex Isola scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Trevor Jenson making it an 8-3 contest.

Once again, Pulaski answered the Elizabethton score with one of their own in the bottom of the inning when Cabello singled home Chirinos to extend the lead back to six runs, 9-3, in favor of the Yankees.

Showing resiliency, the E-Twins fought back with two runs in the top of the seventh to shave the lead to four trailing 9-5.

An Anthony Prato double drove home Steer while Isola picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice picking up Prato.

Pulaski answered with the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh as Mendez singled to right field allowing Madison Santos to score making up the game’s final, 10-5.

Ryley Widell (0-3) was saddled with the loss after going four innings and allowing five Yankee runs on five hits. Widell had five strikeouts while issuing five walks. His ERA stands at 10.38 on the season.

Albee Weiss collected a pair of hits to lead the way for Elizabethton who banged out eight hits in the contest.

Elizabethton wrapped up the road trip Wednesday evening and returned home to open up a home series with Kingsport beginning Thursday evening.

The E-Twins (7-7) trail Johnson City (9-4) by two and a half games in the West Division while the Yankees (8-5) have a half game lead in the East Division over the Danville Braves (8-6).
