The Elizabethton Cyclones boys soccer team celebrated Senior Night on Thursday with a 6-nil non-conference win over Volunteer at Citizens Bank Stadium.

Eleven seniors were honored at halftime with two of those – Austin Outland and Teagan Bernshausen – each scoring a pair of goals in the win.

“They had a couple of opportunities,” Cyclones head coach Bill McClay said of starting his seniors in one group. “They got a goal and it was good to give those guys a run.

“I thought we could have been a little sharper in the first half. In the second half, we knocked a couple right in and that let us get all the seniors back in again.”

Bernshausen got his first goal in the 15th minute followed by a goal from Outland with an assist from fellow senior Joey Hinkle. Outland’s tally came in the 19th minute and staked the Cyclones (11-2-1 overall) to a two-goal lead.

Senior backup goalkeeper Draven Townsend was good on three stops in the first half to hold the Falcons scoreless going into the halftime festivities.

EHS outshot Volunteer 10-3 in the first half as Falcons goalkeeper Brandon Wagner made several fine stops to keep his team within striking distance.

The second half opened with two EHS goals in the first five minutes of play – one by Evan Fulmer in the 41st minute and the other by Outland in the 45th minute – as the Cyclones built a commanding 4-nil lead.

Bernshausen scored again in the 58th minute – the 49th goal of his career – to make it a 5-nil lead and junior Jaxton Holly scored a goal in the 76th minute on a header off a feed from Fulmer to cap off the scoring.

The Cyclones finish the regular season with a game at Hampton on Friday and open the District 1-AA tournament on Tuesday with a match at 7:30. The opponent is to be determined.

The seniors honored at halftime were Luke Bernshausen, Austin Canter, Hinkle, Outland, Teagan Bernshausen, Gavin Lowe, Nolan McKinney, Max Peterson, Christian Riddle, Aiden Taylor and Townsend.

These seniors compiled a 43-21-3 record over their four years, scoring 256 goals while allowing just 107.
