Sometimes in the game of softball, a batter has one of those days where the ball looks as big as a watermelon and Tuesday was that day for Unaka Lady Ranger Taylor Shanks whose four-hit performance helped lead Unaka to an 11-6 conference win over North Greene.
Shanks laced singles in the first and sixth inning and sandwiched in a home run in the third and a double in the fifth inning.
The Lady Rangers scored broke the ice quickly in the bottom of the first inning with the big hit coming from Sadie Shoun who tripled and drove home a run. Shoun ripped three hits on the day and also picked up the win from the pitching circle.
Shanks and Shoun weren’t the only ones having a big day with the bat as Lilie Kiser and Erika Potter collected a double apiece.
Potter also went yard on the day with a home run in an impressive 17-hit attack by Unaka.
Madison Pierce and Kendall Bare added multiple-hit games with two each while Sarah Elliott, Tayla Potter, and Noelle Collins collected one base hit apiece.
Shoun went 5 1/3 innings from the circle allowing nine North Greene hits and six runs. Kailey Wilson finished out the contest pitching 1 2/3 innings allowing only three hits and no runs.
Each Lady Ranger pitcher recorded a strikeout.
