Walk off sends ‘Horns to 6-5 win over Happy Valley

High School baseball fans got their money’s worth in Mountain City on Tuesday as the Happy Valley Warriors and Johnson County Longhorns butted heads.
With the score tied at 5-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the ‘Horns managed to take the tight-fisted affair when Asa Lewis singled to bring home the winning running as Lewis was facing a full-count on the game-winning hit.
Happy Valley led 3-2 going into the top of the fourth inning before Johnson County evened the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the frame.
The ‘Horns took their first lead in the bottom of the fifth when they scored twice to take a 5-3 edge. Happy Valley never retreated as the Warriors came back to score two runs of their own in the top of the sixth to make it 5-5.
Bart Wilson swung the big lumber for the Warriors as he accounted for four hits doubling in the first inning, singling in the third, slapping his second double in the fifth inning, and finally singling in the sixth inning.
Charlie Smith got the starting call on the hill for the Warriors allowing three hits and five runs in four and a third innings of work for Happy Valley. Smith stuck out three ‘Horn batters.
Bryce Carter came up on the short end of the stick for Happy Valley as the senior tossed two and a third inning of relief giving up four hits and one run. Carter struck out three and walked none.
Dylan Willis, Drew Turner, Smith, and Caden Ward also picked up a hit in the Warriors eight-hit attack.
