JOHNSON CITY— although the Elizabethton Cyclones were playing only one game in the Tribe Classic at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City, it was enough to prove that the Cyclones are starting to pull everything together which is bad news for future opponents.
Jumping out to a 3-1 lead early, Elizabethton went on to down the Kentucky team 8-3.
Karson Dillard put a run on the scoreboard first for the Cyclones after drawing a walk and advancing to third base on a Bryson Rollins single to right field.
Evan Carter’s sacrifice fly to center field allowed Dillard to tag and score. Rollins proceeded to steal second base and took third on a single from Evan Perkins.
A Matthew Dailey groundout allowed Rollins to add the second score of the inning for the Cyclones before Lyon County worked out of any further damage trailing 2-0.
After Lyon County managed to dent the scoring column in the top of the fourth inning, ‘Betsy managed to quickly recoup the run in their half of the fourth.
Carter drew a walk and then took second on a passed ball. Perkins fielder’s choice allowed Carter to circle to third base.
Dailey once again did his job as the Cyclone third baseman lofted a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Carter to dash home without a play at the plate to make it 3-1 Elizabethton.
Elizabethton continued to be aggressive in the sixth inning as the Cyclones flipped the scoreboard 5 times to push the advantage to 8-1.
With one out, Carter walked and was followed by a single off the bat of Perkins. Both runners advanced a bag on a double steal setting up EHS runners at second and third.
Dailey scorched a ball that couldn’t be properly played by the Lyon County second baseman as Carter and Perkins both took advantage of the error making the score 5-1.
Lawson Wagner singled to center field pushing Dailey to second base. After a strikeout by Jaden Anderson resulted in the second out of the inning, Dailey and Wagner took advantage of a passed ball to move up a base.
Jacob Mullins walked to load the bags full of Cyclones. Dailey raced home on an error by the Lyon Co. catcher with the other runners moving up as well.
A two-RBI single off the bat of Ashton Wilson pushed the Cyclones comfortably ahead 8-1 at the end of the sixth inning.
Lyon Co. tried to make a game of it in the top of the seventh inning scoring twice, but the Cyclones snuffed out the rally and recorded the 8-3 victory.
Elizabethton outhit Lyon Co. 7 to 4 while playing errorless baseball. Lyon Co. committed two errors.
The Cyclones get back into Three Rivers Conference play on Tuesday in a big way traveling to Kingsport to take on Sullivan South and then turn around and host the Rebels on Wednesday at Joe O’Brien Field at 7 pm.
