Robert William Maupin (“Bob” “Mop”), 85, of Kingsport, Tenn., passed from this life into the eternal presence of Jesus on April 6, 2019. Bob was born on May 7, 1933 in Elizabethton, Tenn., to George and Alma Maupin, who preceded him in death. While attending Elizabethton High School, Bob excelled in football as a member of only one of two undefeated teams in the history of that school. As a boxer, he competed in the Golden Gloves, where he advanced to the National Golden Gloves in Chicago.
After high school, Bob served his country in the United States Army. He married Elizabeth “Liz” Ellis in 1956 in Johnson City, Tenn. Liz preceded him in death in April of 2017. Bob worked for several financial institutions and car dealerships over the years, but his heart was in being an entrepreneur and helping others.
Most days, if you stopped by his Kingsport home, you would find him sitting at his dining room table studying his Bible. He enjoyed listening to and singing gospel music his entire life. He loved his family and friends.
In addition to his parents and Liz, he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Lee Maupin.
Bob is survived by many who love him: children, Bobby (Paula) Maupin, Phil (Carla) Maupin, Lynn (Jon) Schneider and Chris (Amy) Maupin; grandchildren, Stephanie (Steven) Freitas, Jonathan (Kathryn) Maupin, William Maupin, Sarah (Michael) Beaver, Hayley (Jack) Bush, Cameron (Dominique) Schneider, Cole (Sarah) Maupin, Cade Maupin, Whitley Maupin and Kory Schneider; and great-grandchildren, Brycen Fisher, Jared Freitas, Gianna Freitas, Quinlyn Maupin, Adriel Beaver, Adora Beaver and Teagan Maupin.
