GREENSBORO, N.C. — Dixie Dawn Bare, 82, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. Dixie was born on September 21, 1936 in Elizabethton, Tenn. She worked at Lorillard Tobacco Company and retired after 30 years. Growing up as a known tomboy, she loved playing basketball in high school and had pinpoint aim with her 22 rifle. She was a member of Sumner Baptist Church and active in many church activities, including the well-known Bussin’ Buddies group. She loved waterskiing, gardening and continually updating the beautiful landscape of her Greensboro home. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. Becoming a great-grandmother brought her joy that was visible to all. She was a devout Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She has left behind a legacy of unconditional love and grace. She will be deeply missed.
Dixie was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Edwin Bare, in 2016, and siblings, Dolly, Diane, and Dean.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Danny Bare of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Christos Corkhill (Jonathan) of Summerfield, N.C., and Justin Bare, Greensboro, N.C.; and great-grandchildren, Londyn and Harper Corkhill.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberryfhsedgefield.com.
