Harley Edward Cross

Harley Edward Cross, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born March 8, 1933 in Burksville, Ky., to the late Carlie Clyde and Eva Lorene Claywell Cross. He had lived in Carter County since April 1964 and he enjoyed living here.
Harley was a graduate of Lebanon High School, Lebanon, Tenn. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Harley was retired from I.B.M. Corporation in 1987 after 27 years of service. His title was Technical Support Specialist. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gay Cross, June 17, 1981.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lema Gay Hardin Cross; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Ann and John Douglas Echols, Elizabethton; and two grandsons, Christopher John Echols and Joshua Edward Echols, both of Elizabethton.
A service to celebrate the life of Harley Cross will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, February 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Travis Tyler officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Gordon Kyte. The graveside service and interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, in the Blevins Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, will be Joe Taylor, Paul Adams, David Bacon, Jim Dolgner, Dean Grindstaff, Jack Hamilton, Leonard Peters and Lanny White. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
