Lady Rangers slip past North Greene, Huskies fourth-quarter rally drops Unaka

The Lady Rangers had three players hit double digits as they held off North Greene in a thriller Friday night in Stoney Creek.
The win moved the Lady Rangers to 3-1 in the conference after topping the Lady Huskies, 55-53.
Leading the way for Lady Rangers senior was Savannah Tipton who led the way with 14 points, while teammate Jada Whitehead finished the game with 12 points and two 3-pointers. Unaka’s Madison Pierce had ten points and two treys.
“Myah (Parlier) has carried us a lot of times,” said Unaka head coach Kenneth Chambers. “She got into a lot of foul trouble, and she was wanting to go back in. We knew if we could keep it close, we could pull it out. I thought the rest of the team really stepped it up in the first half. We ran our offense and was patient. North Greene is a great team, and we knew we have to play our best.”
After one, the Lady Ranger trailed 15-11 as Unaka’s Tara Whitehead popped a trey while Macy Ensor collected four points in the first frame to help Unaka stay in pace with the Lady Huskies.
The second frame saw Jada Whitehead pick up eight of her 12 points as the Lady Rangers outworked North Greene 16-15 in the quarter. Pierce also had a 3-pointer in the quarter along with two foul shots to pick up five points. Heading into the half, the Lady Rangers trailed 30-27.
Behind five points from Pierce and four from Myah Parlier, the Lady Rangers cut North Greene’s lead to 40-39 heading into the fourth quarter.
Tipton came alive in the fourth quarter for nine points Jada Whitehead knocked down an inside bucket and a 3-pointer to help Unaka outscore North Greene, 16-13, en route to a victory.

Despite holding an early lead, the Ranger couldn’t fend off North Greene Friday night.
In the second half, the Huskies rallied to fend off Unaka, 57-47.
Unaka’s John Ramsey led his team with 16 points. The loss also overshadowed another big night from Ryan Johnson who had five 3-pointers on the night for 15 points. Three of his outside shots came in the second quarter to give the Rangers a sizeable lead.
