Jr. ‘Dogs race past Chuckey-Doak for pair of wins

Hampton and Chuckey-Doak squared off in a pair of middle school basketball games over the weekend as the Jr. Dogs managed to take the double dip in boys and girls play.

Boys

Hampton 43, Chuckey-Doak 42

The Hampton boys had their hands full with the Jr. Black Knights slipping away from Chuckey-Doak by the skins of their teeth with a dramatic 43-42 win.

Hampton built a 19-15 lead at the end of the first half and then had to battle tooth and nail down the stretch to earn the win.

Jonathan Greenwell led the charge for the Jr. Dogs scoring 12 points in the contest. Austin Bentley played a big role as well for Hampton with 10 points.

Ty McElyea and Brody Hicks tallied 7 points apiece in the win as well. Dylan Trivett (4) and Cadon Buckles (3) completed the scoring for the Jr. Bulldogs.

Ethan Grindstaff had 19 points to lead all scorers for Chuckey-Doak.

Girls

Hampton 31, Chuckey-Doak 24

The Jr. Lady Dogs received 9 points from Kenzie Ramey and 8 points from Bre Davis in repelling the Jr. Lady Black Knights by a 31-24 score.

Hampton outscored C-D 12-3 in the third quarter to salt the game away.

Shania Pierce and Linsey Jenkins scored 4 points each while Chloe Watson and Rylie McClain paired up for 3 points apiece in leading the Jr. Lady ‘Dogs to victory.

Gabby Wood scored 9 points and Talian Ealey added 5 to lead the Jr. Lady Black Knights.
