The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones were hoping a get away to the sand and sun of Florida would help warm up their chilled offense, but host Daytona Atlantic managed to keep the Lady Cyclones in a cool state of mind by defeating the Lady Cyclones 52-44 in the 29th annual Sunshine Classic being played at Atlantic High School in Daytona.
Elizabethton played a competitive first half trailing Atlantic only 26-19 at the end of the first 16 minutes of play.
Morgan Headrick led the Lady Cyclones in the opening half with 7 points while Kaylen Shell added 6 points to help keep ‘Betsy in the contest.
McKendra Norris added 4 points with Abbey Townsend netting two in the first half.
A 16-12 third quarter provided enough separation to help Atlantic seal the win down the stretch.
Shell finished the contest with 16 points to lead the Lady Cyclones while Headrick collected 14 points. Norris totaled out at 9 points.
Cheyenne VanHuss (3) and Townsend (2) closed out the scoring for Elizabethton.
