Elizabethton Alliance
The Elizabethton Alliance Church, 533 E. Elk Ave., will host its 2018 Christmas Cafe Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. prior to the Christmas parade downtown.
There will be free desserts, coffee, hot chocolate, and cider as well as lots of Christmas music and fellowship.
There is no charge.

St. Thomas Episcopal
“Prepare Ye the Way” from Isaiah 40 is the title of this year’s “Appalachian Evensong” with lessons and carols at the historic St. Thomas Episcopal Church in old town of Elizabethton. The service will be presented Sunday, Dec. 2.
“Hebrew and New Testament readings foretelling the birth of Jesus will be joined in splendid voice, guitar, mandolin, hammered dulcimer and maybe even a Carter County fiddle or two,” said Timothy Holder, St. Thomas’s priest and pastor.
“We have to prepare the way by readying our hearts and souls in prayer, Bible reading and loving one another, and only then can we begin to celebrate the full meaning of Christmas,” Father Holder said.
Music by Appalachian Tradition will be celebrated throughout the service, which begins at 6 p.m.
An offering will be received for ARM — Assistance and Relief Ministries — to feed the hungry, provide clothing, and other basic necessities for the poor and needy.
All are welcome.

First Christian
First Christian Church, Elizabethton, will celebrate the Hanging of the Greens Sunday at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary.
Sunday morning at the 9:45 a.m. service, Minister Michael Klaus will present a sermon from the series “Overcoming the World.” Steve Pearson will give the communion meditation and Steve Dunlap will read the morning scripture.
Special music will be presented by Janie Broyles.
There will be no mid-morning prayer service on Tuesday until spring.
Bible study will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Saturday evening at 6 p.m. the Carter County Men’s Fellowship will present A Celebration of the Ministry of East Tennessee Christian Home at First Christian Church.
Music will be presented by Tony Rominger, Marlene Vance, and Katie Miller. A love offering will be received for ETCHA.

Borderview
The Adult Choir Ministry of Borderview Christian Church, 1338 Bristol Highway, will present the Christmas musical, “Come Let Us Worship the King” Sunday, Dec. 2, at the 10:45 a.m. worship service. There will be a repeat presentation at 4 p.m.
The musical, complete with lighting and video enhancements, features a 25-voice choir with Tia Sams as soloist.
Scott Fisher is senior minister at the church. Everyone is invited.

First United Methodist
The first Sunday of Advent will be observed Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton. The pastor, the Rev. Raymond Amos, Sr., will present the message “The Hope of Christmas” at the 9:55 a.m. worship service. The sermon will be based on scripture from Isa. 11: 1-10.
Sunday School will begin at 11:20 a.m.
The 4:12 Junior High Student Ministries will meet Sunday from 4:12 to 5:25 p.m. and the Senior High Ministries will meet from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. Coolagers will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Also, Wednesday Night Life Lessons will be held at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Willow Springs Baptist Church
The adult choir of Willow Springs Baptist Church will present the cantata, The First Noel, on December 9 during the 11 a.m. service.
The choir is directed by Bobby Smith.

New Liberty
New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church will kick off a month-long celebration of Christ’s birth beginning this Sunday.
Kirk Carrier will provide special Christmas music selections during the morning worship service beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Emeritus Rev. Ray Colbaugh presenting the message.
Rev. Nick Colbaugh, pastor, invites everyone to attend.
The church is located on 113 Peters Hollow Road located near the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

Upper Gap Creek
Upper Gap Creek Freewill Baptist Church will have its annual candlelight service and Hanging of the Greens at evening worship Sunday, Dec. 2.
The service will begin at 6 p.m. and all are invited.

First Presbyterian
The pastor, Dr. Brian Wyatt, will bring the message Sunday at the morning worship hour at First Presbyterian Church, Elizabethton. His sermon will be titled “Losing the Rhythm,” based on Habakkuk 1: 1-4 and 2: 1-3.
The worship service will begin at 11 a.m. An Education Hour for all ages will be at 9:45 a.m.
Other opportunities of the week include Meditation at 7 p.m. Wednesday; Thursdays with Jesus Reading Group from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday; Exercise Class Tuesday and Thursday from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.; and yoga Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
