The Key Club of Unaka High School hosted its third annual Trunk or Treat event at the track surrounding the football field on campus.

Hundreds of creatures of the night including ghosts, fairy princesses, unicorns, super heros (both Marvel and DC Comic), villains, goblins, a few dinosaurs, and even Elvis came out to gather sweet treats.

Kayla Clawson, the Unaka Key Club advisor, estimates between 450 and 500 kids came out for this year’s event, topping their first and second year total attendance combined.

According to Clawson, “The first year we started this we did it as our service project and it’s just grown each year to what it is now.”

Talking about the event she went on, “We have several Key Club trunks, Elizabethton’s Key Club, Circle K Club from East Tennessee State, the Skills Club, FBLA, HOSA, members of the football team, a few of our staff members, our ROTC and several students have set up trunks around the track giving out their treats.”

Carter County Sheriff’s officers and members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol were also on hand to pass out stickers, badges and other items to the public.

“Key Club is a student lead community service organization. It’s part of the Kiwanis family. The Unaka club is sponsored by the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club with a focus on bringing back service to our school and the community.”

With the great turnout again this year Clawson hopes to continue the event each year for a long time.
