South Greene invaded Warrior Hill on Friday night for Happy Valley’s Senior Night looking for their first outright conference title since 2001 and it’s first conference win over the Warriors since realignment began in 2015.

That did not come to pass as the Warriors blanked South Greene 21-0 behind 125 rushing yards from senior quarterback Dakota Cochran, who also scored a pair of touchdowns.

“We were able to get a 1-2 punch tonight,” Warriors head coach Jason Jarrett said. “That’s a credit to the guys up front opening up the holes. We had Dakota, Will and Jordan each running well, and they got some positive runs and it was a team effort. South Greene is one of the most athletic teams we faced this year. We got a share of the conference title and are very blessed to be in that position.”

HV (5-5, 4-1 conference) recovered an onside kick attempt by South Greene at the Rebels 48-yard line and quickly drove that distance with senior quarterback Dakota Cochran covering the last 24 yards on the ground to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead.

That lead would hold through a quickly played first half with HV having 112 yards of total offense and South Greene with 131 yards. Neither quarterback threw the ball particularly well with junior Levi Myers completing just 1-of-6 passes for 15 yards while Cochran was 2-for-5 for 36 yards through the air.

Warrior junior running back Will Tittle left the game just before the end of the first quarter with an undisclosed injury to his left arm and he did not return.

A light rain began to come down as the second half opened and South Greene went three-and-out on its first possession. A shanked punt gave HV the ball at the Rebels 45-yard line and the Warriors cashed in the miscue with a six-play drive that junior RB Jordan Campbell capped off with a 17-yard scoring run.

“They won the battle of the trenches offensively and defensively,” Rebels head coach Scotty Verran said. “But we are fortunate to be home next week and have time to refocus. Happy Valley did a great job of adjusting at the quarterback position.”

The point-after kick from Michael Harrah was good and HV now held a 14-0 lead.

Sophomore defensive back Blake Young picked off a Myers pass and returned it to the 24-yard line and with a 15-yard personal foul penalty tacked on it gave HV a first and goal at the 9.

Cochran scored on the first play and along with Harrah’s successful boot the Warriors now comfortably led 21-0. Freshman Luke Myers came on in the fourth quarter and combined the two brothers completed just 3-of-19 passes for 37 yards and two interceptions.

Senior RB Nick Hopson led South Greene with 71 yards on 17 tries while Campbell had 76 yards on the ground for HV on seven carries.
