The manhunt for the individual suspected in the Carter County Bank armed robbery ended during the evening hours of Wednesday night.

Officers with the Johnson City Police Department arrested Jerry Bowman at his residence at 1208 Shelby Avenue in Johnson City. Bowman is being charged by the United States Attorney’s Office with one count of armed bank robbery and two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to court documents, officers were led to Bowman’s residence after JCPD officers pulled over a blue Ford Fusion which matched the description of the bank robber’s vehicle. The vehicle was being driven by April Metcalf, who told officers she was living with Bowman and that he had admitted to the robbery at Carter County Bank earlier in the day.

Officers found a $20 bill that had a serial number matching one of the bank’s bait bills in Bowman’s wallet. Bowman consented to a search of his residence and admitted to committing the robbery, according to a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney.

The arrest was made in connection to an armed bank robbery at the Milligan Highway branch of Carter County Bank Wednesday afternoon.

After roughly 1:30 p.m., a white male entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspect, who was described as wearing a yellow striped shirt, dark baseball hat, sunglasses and a bandana covering his face, took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in a blue Ford Fusion.
