Officers with the Elizabethton Police Department responded to an armed robbery at the Milligan Highway branch of Carter County Bank Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., a white male described as in his late 50s and medium built allegedly entered the branch and displayed a gun, said Elizabethton Police Chief Jason Shaw. The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and drove away from the scene in what was described as an older model blue sedan on the Milligan Highway in the direction of Johnson City. Shaw also said the suspect was wearing a yellow jacket.
“He displayed a weapon and demanded money,” said Shaw.
In the hours following the robbery, investigators were checking the bank’s camera system to get photos of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. Investigators were also interviewing bank employees about the incident. There were no injuries, said Shaw.
The branch located at 1254 Milligan Highway will be closed while investigations are ongoing and until officials with Carter County Bank decide to open it back up.
