Early childhood educational opportunities continue to expand in Carter County.

It didn’t come without hard work, according to Abby Goddard and Felicia Adkins with Telamon Corporation Early Head Start in Carter County.

After going through an official ribbon-cutting ceremony last year in November, the facility has continued to be a provider of early educational opportunities for children between the ages of six weeks to three years. During Thursday’s Carter County Community Advisory Board meeting, attendees were able to learn more about the service offered throughout the region.

Goddard, who serves as the facility’s director, said the county office is currently near full capacity with 31 students and that roughly 11 to 12 students are on the waiting list. While it may seem lengthy, Goddard added the facility encourages families to apply due to turn around at the facility.

The early head start building is located on Judge Don Lewis Boulevard in Elizabethton and has experienced high marks since opening, but the facility is still seeking in-kind work and volunteers that are willing to offer their time for children.

According to information provided by the parent corporation, Telamon has been a provider of early childhood education in Tennessee for over 20 years. “Telamon Head Start’s innovative programs provide high-quality early childhood education, addressing the social, emotional, educational, health and nutritional needs of infants, toddlers, and young children. Telamon believes parents are the primary educators of their children and encourages parents to be actively engaged in their child’s education both at the center and at home,” a statement from the organization read.

A variety of activities are on the horizon for the CAB, an organization comprised of various organizations, departments and other entities throughout the region wanting to assist the public. During each meeting, officials from local organizations have a chance to announce events and projects coming up in the Tri-Cities. Some of the upcoming events include:
