Junior running back Will Tittle rushed for 139 yards on 15 tries as Happy Valley toppled Cosby 44-6 in 2A conference football action atop Warrior Hill on Homecoming.
Tittle scored on a 40-yard run to open the scoring for HV after Cosby scored on a fumble by Ty Pierce and a 30-yard return from Keaston Jackson.
“We were sloppy in the first half,” Tittle said. “We had a talk at halftime and came out and executed a lot better. Matthew Lawson has matured and taken the reins at center and our blocking has improved a lot.”
Penalties and mistakes kept the Warriors from totally dominating this one as HV was called for six first-half penalties for 65 yards and the aforementioned fumble stalled Warrior drives. In the second quarter, the Warriors (2-2, 1-1 conference) got rolling when sophomore quarterback Eli Ayers hit senior running back Dakota Cochran on a 24-yard touchdown strike for a 14-6 HV lead.
On Cosby’s next possession Cochran intercepted Eagles quarterback Hunter Workman and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown. Senior kicker Michael Harrah ended the first half with a 42-yard field goal for a 24-6 HV lead.
“We got off to a slow start and that has been an issue for us that we have to get fixed,” Warriors head coach Jason Jarrett said. “We committed a lot of penalties and we have to clean that up as well. We are blessed to have a group of guys that can tote the rock.”
The second half was all HV as the Warriors scored on the opening possession of the second half with senior receiver Bryce Carter catching a 12 yard scoring pass from Ayers for a 31-6 lead. Sophomore running back Matthew Bahn carried six times for 55 yards and two scores. Bahn scored on a 22 yard scamper in the third period and a four yard touchdown run in the fourth.
