With the end of summer events around the bend for Elizabethton Parks and Recreation, staff are ready to end the season on a high note.
Parks & Rec members are partnering with the Elizabethton Lions Club to present the annual Show on the Doe on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Covered Bridge Park near downtown Elizabethton.
Activities get underway at 7 p.m. with Kids Our Age taking center stage at the park for the department’s Covered Bridge Jams concert series. Following the music, at around roughly 9 p.m., the department will unveil a large movie screen at the park to provide a free showing of the Disney movie “The Incredibles” to those in attendance.
Excitement has grown for the event over the years, according to Parks & Rec Program Coordinator Kelly Kitchens. Each year, the department has seen an increase in attendees and Kitchens encouraged those wishing to participate to show up early with a blanket or seat to find a good location at the park for the movie and music.
“It really serves as the ending for our events and it has been great to see the community support for the Show on the Doe,” Kitchens said.
The support also allowed the department to purchase a new inflatable screen that will be unveiled during the event.
Partnerships also play a key role in keeping these types of activities going strong Kitchens said. Northeast Community Credit Union has played a pivotal role in sponsorship of events, she said. Another key ally, especially for the Show on the Doe, is the Elizabethton Lions Club.
Volunteers will be on site Saturday to assist with the program. During the evening, volunteers will sell concessions to help benefit their goal of support needs within the community.
The Elizabethton Lions Club has been active over the past three years and the growth has been recognized, said Club President Nathanael Hughes. Hughes added the Lions Club is excited about the opportunity once again to partner with Parks & Rec and showcase their mission and goals to the public.
“Our Elizabethton Lions Club members are very excited to be serving concessions again for the annual Show on the Doe,” Hughes said. “We hope the community will come out and create a big turnout like last year. This is one of the biggest fundraisers for our club and we hope everyone comes to the event and stops by to see us.”
