The Happy Valley Warriors junior varsity got a little redemption Monday evening on Warrior Hill.
After the Happy Valley varsity fell 33-7 to the Falcons Friday night, the Warriors JV returned the favor as they collected a 34-0 win over Volunteer.
“After Friday night’s not so great showing, we were looking forward to seeing how our team responded,” said Happy Valley JV coach Jordan Taylor. “These kids came out and gave a great effort, and I’m really proud of them.”
The Warriors struck twice in the first quarter. The first TD came as QB Eli Ayers connected with Eli Phillips on a 16-yard touchdown toss that was followed up by Warriors Timmy Mounts running in the 2-point conversion. Ayers picked up the next touchdown as he ran in a 7-yarder. Happy Valley’s Andrew Little followed up by busting in for the 2-point conversion, and the Warriors led 16-0 heading into the second quarter.
Ayers found Phillips again on a 58-yard passing touchdown, and with the 2-point conversion failing, the Warriors led 22-0 heading into the half.
The Warriors led 28-0 after Little found the end zone on a 9-yard carry in the third quarter.
The final touchdown of the game came after a big defensive play from Happy Valley’s Peyton Freeman. Freeman sacked the Volunteers QB and forced a fumble. Freeman then scooped up the fumble and ran it in for a touchdown.
