William Harlow Fagan

William Harlow Fagan, 86, of Dixon Ill., died at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. He was born April 22, 1932 in Watauga, Tenn., the son of William Robert Fagan and Pluma Alice Bare.
Mr. Fagan was a veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star for Valor, and Purple Heart as well as numerous other commendations. He retired in 1997 from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters while working for Ladd Construction. William was a life member of the VFW, DAV, and a member of the American Legion.
William married Carmen Jean Surratt on January 23, 1952 at First United Methodist Church in Sterling.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; six children, Timothy (Diane) Carr of Bluff City, Tenn., Steven (Hazel) Fagan of Goodyear, Ariz., Sherri (Claude) Fagan of Phoenix, Ariz., Dana Port of Rockfalls, Bradley Fagan of Dixon, and Denise (John) Fagan of Dallas, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; son, Robert “Bob” Fagan; and his nine siblings, James, Helen (Kiser), Jack, Woodrow, Margaret (Rumley), John, George, Isabell (Puckett), and Thomas.
A celebration of life will be held at the VFW in Dixon on July 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. with family and friends invited to share memories and stories at 5 p.m. William gifted his body to the University of Iowa for research and education.
