An ever-expanding outreach program at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library continues to pick up traction for the adult population of the community.

Maryann Owen, public library adult outreach program coordinator, recently announced the facility will host a job fair — specifically focused on the healthcare industry, on Thursday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the library’s community room.

“We’re offering this as a way for members of the public to take advantage of job opportunities in the region,” Owen said.

A trio of agencies will be in attendance for the job fair.

According to Owen, one of the agencies that may be newer to some is RHA Health Services.

“They wish to broaden their coverage into Carter County,” Owen said. “They deal with special needs home health and I believe we need them.”

The RHA Health Services website indicates it is a “multi-state company providing a comprehensive network of support services for people with intellectual, physical and developmental disabilities and those with behavioral health needs of substance use challenges.”

Owen indicated that she is looking to incorporate assistance from Lisa Lyons, founder of the Kids Like Us Community Learning Center in Elizabethton, to speak with the organization so they can potentially make an impact to citizens that utilize the center.

The Waters of Roan Highlands will also be on site with opportunities available for those seeking a position as a CNA. Owen is no stranger to The Waters with the library having a mobile library located at the Roan Mountain center.

Another employer that will be on site is Silver Angels, which is currently looking for a home care specialist.

Offering a job fair is just one of the different tools the adult outreach program is looking to implement on a regular basis to bolster the library’s presence through the city and county. To kick off the 2018 season, Owen was able to add to the library’s growing mobile library program by implementing a satellite site at Sycamore Springs senior citizens center. The mobile library allows residents at various centers across the center and county to have access to books from the library’s inventory for a monthly period.

Owen added that various ideas are coming through the pipeline at the library, including the potential addition of art pieces in the facility.

Library staff also announced that the library will be closed on Friday, June 1, for staff development.
