Phillip Steven Carpenter

Phillip Steven Carpenter, 70, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Avery County, N.C., he was a son of the late Ernest William and Nellie Mason Carpenter.
Phillip was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and served in the United States Army. He was the owner of Interstate Motors and City Motors.
Phillip was of the Baptist Faith. He was a member of the National Street Rod Association where he had a passion for restoring antique cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary W. Carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Melody Bowers Carpenter; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Phillip Carpenter and Patrick (Pam) Carpenter; his grandchildren, his pride and joy, Sarah and Gracie Carpenter, Robbie and Rachel Carpenter, Sarah and Gracie’s mother, Jessica; his sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Bill Bennett, Clearwater, Fla.; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil (Linda), William, Mitchell (Margaret), Jackie (Connie) and Joe (Tammy) Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service for Phillip Steven Carpenter will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Tim Chambers officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be his brothers. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Montgomery, Albert and Harvey Harrold, G.W. Puckett, Brian Russell, Charlie Odom, Tim Timbs, Mack Cook, Tony Russell, Dennis Woodring, Roger Cole, local car dealers and Rod Runners. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Sycamore Shoals Hospital ICU Regina Barkley, Dr. Starr, Colleen Worelock RN and Tiffany Wortman Jones RN, Dr. Kenneth Hopland and Tim Chambers for all the compassion and care of Phillip. Friends may call at the residence. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Carpenter to the New Hope Ministries.
