New city manager to be selected Thursday

The search for the City of Elizabethton’s top administrative position will come to a close this week.

City Council will hold their regularly scheduled Thursday meeting at 6 p.m. inside City Hall to select one of four candidates to take over the role vacated by Jerome Kitchens following his retirement in April.

• Jon Hartman – Elizabethton City Manager Pro Tem

• Daniel Estes – Assistant Town Administrator of Collierville

• Emily Wood – Church Hill City Recorder

• Glenn Rosenoff – Erwin City Recorder

Since Kitchens’ retirement, Hartman has served as the interim city manager and worked with city officials to finalize the 2018-19 fiscal year budget, which will also go through a first reading during Thursday’s meeting.

Kitchens served at the post from 2013 until this year.

City officials will look to take the first step toward implementing a sports complex in Elizabethton by voting to enter into an agreement with Tom Weems Architect to work on designs for the facility. More discussion on the measure will be brought up during the meeting.

A pair of budgets will be brought before the Council for readings, including the 2018-19 city budget and the city airport budget.

Other items to be addressed during the meeting include a resolution for the biennial municipal election to be held Nov. 6 of this year to elect four councilmen and two members of the board of education with terms expiring in 2022.

Officials will also look at giving the OK for the Jiggy Ray’s Outdoor Summer Festivals and Monday Night Bike Nights to help attract visitors to the region.
