Local businessman Jarrod Ellis will be making the transition to Carter County’s Register of Deeds when August rolls around.
Ellis, owner of J’s Corner in Elizabethton, came away victorious Tuesday night during the county’s Republican primary election, outlasting bids from other candidates Jessica Markland and Adam Townsend.
According to the unofficial final tally, Ellis won the election with 4,560 votes while Markland received 3,208. Adam Townsend rounded out the voting totals with 1,571.
With the victory in the primary, Ellis will run opposed during August’s general election. The three vied for the position following the news of incumbent Jody Bristol’s retirement.
“It is really overwhelming,” Ellis said following the victory. “First of all, I want to thank God and everyone for their support during this election season. It has been a long eight months but I’m excited for what the future holds.
“I also want to commend Jessica and Adam on their clean, hard fought campaigns,” Ellis added.
Moving forward, Ellis said the plan is in place to prepare for the transition to Register of Deeds.
“We’ve still got some time before the general election,” Ellis said. “I’ll be going by the office to learn more about the position and begin the transition to pass along the restaurant to our very loyal employees. This is really an exciting time in my life. I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter and again I just want to thank everyone for their support during this election.”
