Consider it just another arrow in the quiver for the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library.
Following up from last year’s success, the facility expanded its outreach into the region Tuesday by offering its fourth mobile library at the Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community in Elizabethton.
Maryann Owen, Adults Services coordinator at the library, stopped by the facility Tuesday to drop off 50 books that will be available for residents to read over the months.
“This is our fourth mobile library and we’re excited to have Sycamore Springs involved,” Owen said. “They’ve been so excited for this project. We’ve been getting calls for months. Sycamore Springs has been so great to work with and we’re excited to continue offering this program in the community.”
The project received the greenlight last year from ECCPL Director Renita Barksdale, Owen said, and the facility was able to offer three mobile libraries at assisted living facilities in the city and county.
With Roan Mountain and a pair of city centers receiving books, Owen added it was a delight to have Sycamore Springs added to the rotation.
During Tuesday’s event, residents were able to check out books, ranging from westerns to nonfiction. Residents that check out books sign a sheet from the center’s staff with the name, book title and barcode to keep inventory on each book.
Owen added the books will be in rotation over the coming months and will cater to the interests of residents. Jordan Bishop, who serves as the activities director, added it was great to see everyone excited for the project and thanked the library for their assistance.
Moving forward, Owen added she would like to see the program grow, along with the other adult services’ programs being offered at the library.
