Happy Valley senior Landon Morefield will be taking his size and power to Carson-Newman.
The Warrior, in front of friends and family Friday, signed with the Carson-Newman where he will play on the offensive line for the Eagles.
“I went and visited their campus and they have a really nice weight room and really nice facilities down there,” said Morefield. “Everyone was very nice and it was just a great visit when I went there.”
For the past four years, Morefield has played a crucial role on the Warriors’ offensive and defensive lines. Morefield was apart of a Warriors squad that saw a TSSAA Class AA quarterfinals game in 2017 while going 11-2 that season. Morefield’s accolades include two all-conference selections, a 2016 selection to the Sports Writers’ All-State Team and a 2017 selection to the TNFCAA All-State Team. Also in 2017, Morefield was the Mountain East Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year. Over his career, Morefield racked up multiple pancake blocks on offense while racking up over 79 tackles on defense.
“He is dominant on both sides of the ball,” said Happy Valley head Jason Jarrett. “With the offense, they run down there (Carson Newman), I feel like he can be very successful on the offensive front. He is a big strong kid that has great feet and is very athletic for his size.”
The senior said he hopes to study occupational therapy at Carson Newman, which is located in Jefferson City. As Morefield looked to the future, he took a second to reflect on his time as a Warrior.
“It has all been about family with us,” said Morefield. “I will just miss all of the guys. It has been a special four years”
