When the Carter County Commission meets on Monday, the commissioners will tackle a relatively light agenda.

One of the top orders of business for the county’s governing body will be the selection of the county attorney.

Current County Attorney Josh Hardin submitted a letter to the Commission asking that he be considered for reappointment to the position.

“It remains my desire to continue working with this body and all of the elected and appointed officials of the county for years to come, and I vow to continue to represent Carter County in all respects to the best of my ability as I have always done,” Hardin said in the letter. “I would sincerely appreciate your consideration and vote for my re-election to another term as your County Attorney.”

Hardin has served as the County Attorney for Carter County since 2014. Prior to his appointment, Hardin assisted the previous County Attorney, Keith Bowers Jr.

No other individuals submitted letters or applications to be considered for appointment as County Attorney.

Commission Chairman Dr. Robert Acuff said nominations for the position of County Attorney will be accepted from the commissioners during the meeting, and nominations will be open to any qualified individual.

Commissioners will also vote on appointments to the Carter County Planning Commission during Monday’s meeting.

A matter of business brought before the Commission by the Highway Committee will see the governing body voting on a resolution to authorize the Carter County Highway Department to perform paving work for the Carter County School System at the Siam Alternative Learning Center. The project is estimated to cost $9,300 and the school system will reimburse the Highway Department for the cost of the project.

Members of the Commission will also consider a funding request from Carter County Mayor Leon Humphrey to allocate $8,600 as a match for a $50,000 grant through the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.

The Carter County Commission will meet on Monday, April 16, at 6 p.m. in the courtroom located on the second floor of the Carter County Courthouse. Prior to the Commission meeting, Carter County Mayor Leon Humphrey and the Commission will host the Hometown Heroes Awards ceremony at 5 p.m. in the courtroom.
