For over 40 years, Elizabethton Rotary Club members have served up success when it comes to supporting local agencies.

Continuing the trend for 2018, the organization is gearing up for the 47th annual bean dinner on Thursday, April 19, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at T.A. Dugger Junior High School.

Rotary Club President Joe Alexander and bean supper chairman stated that tickets for the event are $7 per person and can either be purchased at the door or from club members.

A ticket covers all the fixins’ for the dinner, Alexander said, while corn dogs and chips will be available for children. Individuals can either eat in the cafeteria or order carry-outs.

All proceeds from the event will go toward local charities in the community and benefit projects going on at T.A. Dugger.

Thursday was busy for a handful of club members as Alexander, Keith Morley, Richard Tetrick, Lisle Snyder, Stan Bentley and Jason Blevins spent time sorting through the shipment of beans to be used for the evening.

Since its creation, the event went from an American Cancer Society-only fundraiser to branching off to help others due to the overwhelming feedback provided from the community.

“Richard Tetrick originated the bean dinner for the Rotary Club 47 years ago with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society,” Alexander said. “We have continued that tradition and still contribute $1,000 to ACS as one of the Relay For Life sponsors.”

The Elizabethton Rotary Club is a chapter of Rotary International — which has been around for over 110 years and has geared the mission to address issues at a local and worldwide level.

Members will also be selling polio glasses at the dinner to assist Rotary International in ridding the world entirely of the disease.
