An Elizabethton mainstay over half-a-century old is gearing up for another installment.
Officials with the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce will look to receive final approval Thursday from City Council to host the 52nd annual Covered Bridge Celebration in downtown Elizabethton from June 7-9.
According to information provided by Tonya Stevens, executive director for the Chamber of Commerce, the festival will begin to set up downtown on June 7 around 6 a.m. with various fun and family-based activities lasting over the course of three days before concluding Saturday evening.
“The Elizabethton Carter County Chamber of Commerce expresses gratitude to the City of Elizabethton each year for the support of the Covered Bridge Celebration. With the combined efforts each year, the festival has become a success for the community of Elizabethton and Carter County,” Stevens said in a letter addressed to the city.
Stevens’ letter to the city is to ask for the regular street closures and other necessities needed to host the event. The 52nd event will feature a bevy of activities like last year, including a kids’ island, arts & crafts vendors, a community yard sale and various musical artists.
Chamber officials announced recently announced the headlining acts for each night in March with some well-known names making their way to the community.
Sunday will be headlined by award-winning country music singer Billy Dean. Saturday’s concert headliner is Grammy award-winning Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver while Fiddlin’ Carson Peters & Iron Mountain will headline Thursday evening’s concert.
An addition unveiled last year will be back again with the free kids’ activities area expected to take place in downtown Elizabethton near the Bonnie Kate Theater and Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition building.
In conjunction with the event, the Covered Bridge Celebration will also include a 5K run and 3K walk for attendees.
More details will be announced publicly closer to the time of the event.
