Coming off the success from a recent showing of “The Wizard of Oz,” officials with the Bonnie Kate will soon see some of the region’s youngest performers give a helping hand to the project.
Marcia Ross, program coordinator with the Bonnie Kate Theater, recently announced that youth involved with the Bonnie Kate Youth Drama Class and Youth Musical Theater will offer a double feature of sorts on Saturday, April 7.
Students with the Bonnie Kate Youth Drama Class will offer the production of “Wild, Wild Folk Tales” while the musical theater youth will grace the stage with singing and dancing for a performance of “Screen Test.”
According to information provided by the Bonnie Kate, the times for the shows are 2:30 and 7 p.m. with the cost of admission set for $5 with proceeds going to benefit the Bonnie Kate Restoration Project. The next order of business for the Bonnie Kate is to raise funds to improve the roof of the facility.
Ross recently told the Elizabethton Star that is has been a welcomed sight to have the region’s up-and-coming performers take an interest in the Bonnie Kate and participate in the various classes offered to work on their skills and perform in front of the public.
Since the Bonnie Kate reopened its doors, several local performers have taken to the stage, including students from Milligan College and Elizabethton High School — setting the stage with their own legacy being the first performers to grace the stage.
Representatives with the Bonnie Kate Board have been hard at work over the past two years offering various fundraisers to improve the facility and make it a multi-use facility for musical performances, theatrical productions, movie showings and other types of community-based events. One of the newest additions that formed since the Bonnie Kate’s reopening is the BBQ, Blues & Brews Festival at Covered Bridge Park — which is currently gearing up for the 2018 installment.
