The ending of Hampton home match up with Sullivan North left many Bulldog fans very unhappy.
The Sullivan North Golden Raiders escaped Hampton with a 15-13 win after officials called the game in the sixth due to bad lighting since the field at Hampton doesn’t have lights.
The high scoring opened with the Raiders jumping ahead 4-0 after the top of one. The Bulldogs, however, answered in the bottom of the frame as Hampton’s Brett Deaton smashed a 3-RBI triple to close the gap to 4-3 heading into the second inning.
The Bulldogs got on board again in the second as Hampton’s Caleb Oaks hit a 2-RBI double while teammate Josh Owens had an RBI single to help the Hampton take a 6-4 lead after two innings.
An RBI by Hampton’s Logan Street, who grounded out to second, allowed the Bulldogs to move on ahead 7-4 heading into the fourth frame.
In the fifth inning, the Golden Raiders posted six runs to jump ahead 10-7. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to tie the game up at 10-10.
Sullivan North came alive again to jump up 15-10 in the sixth before the Bulldogs closed the gap to 15-13 as Hampton’s Dalton Rouse hit a 2-RBI double to help the Bulldogs’ cause.
At the plate, Hampton’s Josh Owens had three hits while Oaks and Rouse finished with two each. Owens, Rouse, and Oaks all had two RBIs apiece.
The Bulldogs will travel over to Sullivan North today to finish up the series.
