Barbara was a long-time educator, teaching 39 years in the Carter County area. She sacrificially cared for her husband, Hershel Julian, and was a fantastic mamaw to her seven grandkids, recently becoming a great-grandmother in January of 2018.
A native of Grainger County, Barbara moved to Roan Mountain in 1961 as a lay missionary for the United Methodist Church. She volunteered in many capacities throughout her time here. She was a vital part of the Roan Mountain community, and affected many lives both through her career and time with the First United Methodist Church of Roan Mountain, where she was a member from 1961 until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ova and Helen Curl Duck of Rutledge, Tenn., and her brother, Bruce Duck of Oak Ridge, Tenn.
She is survived by her husband, Hershel Julian of Roan Mountain; sons, Craig (and wife Connie Julian) of Roan Mountain, and Brad (and wife Kera Julian) of Huntersville, N.C. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jacob (and wife Brooke Julian), Joshua Julian, Laura Julian Taylor (and husband Casey), Jared Julian, Andrew Julian, Jonah Julian, Lincoln Julian, and her great-grandson, Judah Julian. She is also survived by five siblings, and countless other family members, including her close friend, Jancy Caldwell.
