Ruth Oaks, 92, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 23, 2018, from The Waters at Roan Highlands Nursing Home.
Ruth was born in Roan Mountain to the late Bert and Nellie Briggs Elliott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Tull Thomas Oaks Sr., in December of 2012; a great-grandson, Samuel Blake Hensley; two brothers, Darvin Conley Elliott and J.B. Elliott; and two sisters, Jessie Harrison and Joann Norris.
Ruth was a homemaker and a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a member of High Point Baptist Church and loved being with her family and her church family.
Those left to cherish her memory include three sons, Ronnie Oaks and wife Pat of Wadesboro, N.C., Garry Oaks and wife Regina and Tull Oaks Jr. and wife Carol, all of Roan Mountain; two brothers, Thurman Elliott of Mount Vernon, Ind., and Bill Elliott and wife Phyllis of Matthews, N.C.; one sister, Judy McKinney and husband Sam of Roan Mountain; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister-in-law, Nola Freeman of Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Ruth Oaks will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Tull Oaks Jr. and Pastor Michael Blair officiating. Music will be under the direction of Melanie Adams. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Oaks Cemetery, Bill Oaks Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to especially thank the doctors and staff of The Waters at Roan Highlands Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Ruth during her illness.
