Renovations underway at Harmon Park

Residents that enjoy the parks within the City of Elizabethton can expect some new additions at a popular mainstay.
Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mains announced Monday that construction is now underway at Harmon Park to construct new pavilions and a restroom area as part of continual improvements that were OK’ed by the city government during last year’s budget cycle.
“This is just another improvement we’re wanting to provide to the public,” Mains said. “We’re finishing up work on the splash pad at Franklin Pool. We were able to install new equipment at Riverside Park so now construction will be going on soon at Harmon Park. We appreciate the support of City Council for these projects and can’t say enough about the support from the public for all of our different parks in the city.”
Construction is anticipated to take place for “several weeks” according to Mains. During that time, Mains said that reservations at Harmon Park will be unable to take place. Once construction is completed, the director said that reservations will be able to resume.
One of the key components of work, according to Mains, is the ability to do construction in house.
“That’s one of the things about all these different projects. Our maintenance staff is handling work,” he said. “The department is so talented and such an asset. We’re able to handle certain work in house. I can’t say enough about Dave McQueen and the staff. They do so much for our city and the public.”
A variety of resources will be available to the public during the winter months. The splash pad at Franklin Pool will be available for Memorial Day weekend while equipment at Riverside Park is expected to receive usage from the public.
