New ministry aims to support community with gospel concerts

Carrying over a model first started in Ohio, one local couple is looking to do their part to support the region with the power of music and fellowship.
Steve and Marlene Vance’s new project — For His Glory Ministries — will be unveiled to the public Saturday, March 17, for a free gospel concert featuring No Name But His and Sacred Harmony to be held at T.A. Dugger Junior High.
The event is scheduled to take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public. A love offering will be taken up during the night with proceeds going to help the East Tennessee Home Christian Academy (ETCHA).
Steve said the idea went over well in Ohio during the couple’s previous endeavor — the North Central Gospel Music Association. The goal of the ministry is to promote local musicians and singers by providing concerts to benefit different charities.
ETCHA proved to be a perfect organization to partner with for the inaugural event, according to the ministry founder.
“I’m a member of Blue Springs Christian, part of the Carter County Men’s Fellowship, so I was able to know a bit about the Academy,” Steve said Tuesday. “They do a lot for our community so we thought it would be perfect to bring in a couple of bands that people know very well. Brian Scott and Evelyn Dugger were so great to work with. The bands are making no money off this. They’re just coming in for a great night of music and a chance to give back to a community organization.”
Ron Marvel, with ETCHA, added the concert will come at a key time for the group as they get fundraising efforts underway for 2018.
“We are very appreciative of For His Glory Ministries for having this event,” Marvel said. “We often get maxed out as far as fundraiser events with limited time and resources. To have a group come and provide this makes a real difference.”
Steve added the goal of the new ministry is to provide concerts and also provide clothing to those less fortunate in the community.
“We’re hoping to tie everything together,” he said. “Saturday will be our first concert, but we’re hoping to have more. We want to do what we can to help give back to the community.”
And with the results already visible in Ohio and the drive going locally, Marvel believes the organization has a chance to make an impact for other organizations throughout the region.
“I’m excited to see the difference beyond our event that Steve’s group is going to make,” Marvel said.
