A handful of residents were arrested over the weekend for being in possession of stolen items from Tennessee and North Carolina.
Members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Israel Hensley, 31, Dakota Sutton, 24, Christopher Henson, 29, and Bryan Bunten, 31, all from Elizabethton, on Saturday, March 10, on charges of theft over $10,000.
In the report issued by CCSO Sgt. Issac Rhea, a call was made from Chambers Hollow Road in Elizabethton in regards to a theft. En route to the call, Rhea noticed a dark-colored Chevy Silverado pulling a trailer toward US Highway 19-E. Rhea noted in the report he had just passed constable Harvey Shaffer just before passing the car. Shaffer was asked to halt the truck while Rhea made his way to the call.
After speaking with the victim, who explained that a blue Yamaha Grizzly four wheeler was stolen from his carport, Rhea arrived at the traffic stop with two other CCSO officers already on scene.
Officers received consent to open the trailer, resulting in the discovery of a four wheeler matching the description of the victim. A Suzuki GSXR motorcycle was also discovered in the trailer. A check of the bike indicated it was recently stolen out of Marion, N.C. Along with items in the trailer, a VIN check of the truck indicated it to was stolen out of North Carolina.
Hensley, the driver of the truck, and the three other passengers were taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Detention Center.
